Privacy

The short version: we hold almost nothing.

The study app

There are no accounts. Your answers, notes, plan and settings are saved in your own browser, on your own device, using local storage. They are not sent to us. We cannot see them, and we cannot recover them if you clear your browser data, which is why the app offers a backup file.

The site uses no analytics or tracking scripts, no advertising, and no tracking cookies. Our host, Cloudflare, shows us overall numbers such as how many requests the site handled each day; they are not linked to you. If that ever changes, this page will say so first.

How questions reach you

NurseLumen questions are kept on our server and sent to your device as you practice, a few at a time, rather than all at once. When the app opens it downloads a short list of the questions that exist (their area, topic and format, without the questions themselves), so your progress and study plan work without sending anything about you.

Our site and server are hosted by Cloudflare. Like every website, it receives the ordinary technical details of each request, such as your IP address and the time, and handles them under Cloudflare's privacy policy. We do not keep request logs ourselves. To stop automated bulk copying of the question bank, the server counts how many questions each internet address asks for in a short time. That count is stored only under a scrambled code made with a secret that is replaced every day, so it cannot be turned back into your address, and it is deleted within two days. The server does not record which questions you were sent, and nothing about your answers or progress ever reaches it.

Questions you have already been sent are kept in your browser on your device (up to 400 of them), so you can review them and keep going if your connection drops. "Erase all my data" in Settings removes them, as does clearing site data in your browser.

If you download an offline pack (up to 100 questions), it is stored in your browser on your device, like your progress. You choose what goes in it on your device, so the server is only told which questions to send, never why. You can remove it at any time from the Practice page, and "Erase all my data" in Settings removes it too.

Educators who review questions

Students have no accounts. Separately, nurse educators we invite can review questions in a private review area, signing in with a username and password we give them. For them we keep their name, credentials, username, a scrambled form of their password (never the password itself), when they last signed in, and their review decisions (approve, turn down with a reason, or a suggested edit), so we can track which questions were checked. Only the site owner sees who reviewed what. Students see only "Reviewed by a nurse educator" and the month. Reviewers can ask us to remove their details at any time.

Your own study sets

Questions, cards and notes you import into My study sets are stored in your browser's own database on your device (IndexedDB). They are never uploaded. They are included in the backup file you can download from Settings.

Study room music

If you add a YouTube, Spotify, SoundCloud or Apple Music link in the Study room, its player loads only when you press play. That service then receives the usual information any embedded player does, under its own privacy policy. Your list of links stays on your device. The ambient sounds (rain, fire and so on) are generated in your browser and contact no one.

No third-party requests by default

Fonts, icons and sounds are all served from NurseLumen itself. Nothing on the site contacts another company unless you choose to, for example by pressing play on a music link, following a link to a resource, or making a donation.

Shared study set links

When you share a study set by link, the set is stored inside the link itself (after the # sign), which browsers never send to a server. Only people you give the link to can see it.

A Study together link works the same way: it holds only the start time, the rhythm and the optional name you typed, after the # sign. Everyone's timer is worked out on their own device from the clock. Nobody can see who else has the link open.

If you give

Gifts by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay are handled by Stripe, on Stripe's own secure page. Stripe collects what it needs to take payment, under its own privacy policy, and tells NurseLumen the amount and the name and email you give it, so we can say thank you and keep the records the law requires. NurseLumen never sees or stores your card details.

If you write to us

We keep your email address, and anything you choose to write, only to reply to you. You can ask us to delete it at any time. Messages to info@nurselumen.ca are forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to an inbox hosted by Google (Gmail), so they pass through both companies, under their own privacy policies.

Children

NurseLumen is meant for people preparing for a professional exam and is not aimed at children.

Your choices

You can clear everything the app has stored at any time from Settings, or by clearing site data in your browser. To ask about, correct or delete anything we hold about you, contact us.
